Can smile lines go away?

Most adult patients are unhappy with the idea of getting older. But with age comes wisdom—and wrinkles! Both men and women who are interested in reducing the signs of aging and restoring their youthful appearance might wrongly believe that plastic surgery procedures such as a facelift are the only way to get noticeable, lasting results. Fortunately, there have been continued improvements in the field of cosmetic dermatology which allow patients to enjoy other non-surgical solutions, including the introduction of dermal fillers and neuromodulators.

Can smile lines go away?

Over time, patients will notice the formation of wrinkles and folds on the face. This is due to the natural loss of collagen after the age of 30 which causes a loss of volume and increases skin laxity. Skin laxity allows for fine lines and wrinkles to develop and reside in specific areas such as around the nose, mouth, eyes, and forehead. To address these, patients can have injections performed at Hollywood Dermatology and Cosmetic Specialists. These injections may include:

  • Dermal fillers—dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid gels that are administered directly into the wrinkles and folds that require treatments. They add volume right where they are needed, and most patients enjoy the results of these injections for several months.
  • Neuromodulators – neuromodulators are another injectable used for facial enhancement. They include brands such as Botox. Botox is a medication that reduces muscle contractions where it is injected. In doing so, it smooths the surrounding skin and fades away wrinkles and folds.
  • Collagen stimulators – another option is a collagen stimulator which increases the skin’s natural production of collagen to add volume in the areas that need added volume.
