What is the Pixel Erbium Laser?

The Pixel Erbium Laser is a fractional skin resurfacing laser that treats wrinkles and other skin imperfections on the face, neck, chest or hands. The laser works by sending out brief pulses of light energy that are absorbed by the skin. The light energy then changes into heat, which vaporizes small sections of the skin. As the skin heals, it replaces the old, damaged skin with new, younger-looking skin. This treatment is designed to improve the quality and texture of the skin by stimulating new collagen growth in the treated areas.

Why is the Pixel Erbium Laser used?

The Pixel Erbium Laser is used to treat skin imperfections that may be present on the face, neck, chest or hands. Skin damage can be the result of excessive sun exposure, normal aging, or skin injuries. The Pixel Erbium Laser is usually used to target one or more of the following skin concerns:

  • Wrinkles
  • Scars
  • Superficial skin lesions
  • Damaged skin surface

What does the Pixel Erbium Laser treatment involve?

To find out if you are a good candidate for Pixel Erbium Laser treatment, consult with a doctor at Hollywood Dermatology. If you and your doctor decide laser resurfacing is right for you, make sure to discuss your skin concerns, allergies, and prior health issues with your doctor before undergoing the procedure.

During the procedure, the laser is applied to the treatment area through a micro-optics lens. The laser creates a “micro-injury” in the specific area, using a series of tiny laser beams. Patients may describe a light flicking or warm feeling during treatment.

Unlike traditional ablative laser resurfacing, the fractional method only damages certain portions of the skin within the treatment area. Other methods usually remove the entire top layer of skin, which increases a patient's recovery time.

After the procedure, patients may feel a tightness in the treated area, which feels smooth to the touch. Minor swelling, redness, or skin flaking (similar to a sunburn) can be expected in the days following the procedure.

Are there any side effects of using the Pixel Erbium Laser treatment?

Side effects of the procedure are usually minimal and resolve in a short period of time. The most common side effects of laser resurfacing include the following reactions around the treatment area:

  • Itching
  • Minimal swelling
  • Minor redness
  • Changes in skin color
  • Skin flaking

Speak with your dermatologist for more specific information about what you can expect for your unique skin type.
