Dr. Mercedes Florez-White is a nationally and internationally recognized dermatologist, especially for her work on pigmentation in patients of Latin American ancestry and her publications on acne and rosacea. She is also a leader in the dermo-cosmetic area and is deeply committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care that addresses both the medical and emotional needs of her patients.
Originally from Colombia, she received her training and degree as Doctor in Medicine and Surgery at the Javeriana University in Bogotá, Colombia. She then completed an internship in General Medicine at the Hospital San Ignacio in Bogotá and her residency in Dermatology at the Hospital das Clinicas from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, where she began her studies on pigmentation. She also holds an MBA in management of medical centers.
Dr. Florez-White is currently an Associate Professor of Dermatology at Florida International University College of Medicine, where she directs the Dermatology Unit.
Dr. Florez-White has held all available positions in the Colombian Association of Dermatology, including Member of the Board, Treasurer, General Secretary, Vice President and President. She was also Vice President of the Iberian Latin American College of Dermatology and served as the delegate from non-Latin American countries until 2019. She holds memberships and leadership roles in multiple international dermatology associations, including Board Member of the International Society of Dermatology, Chair of the Maria Duran Committee, honorary member of the majority of the Latin American Associations, and member of the European Academy of Dermatology. She was an international fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) from 1991 to 2005, later becoming an associate member. She also received a Certificate of Recognition for 25 years of continuous service to the AAD.
Over her more than 40-year career, Dr. Florez-White has participated in numerous research projects and has authored over fifty publications in peer-reviewed journals and medical books.
She currently sees patients at Hollywood Dermatology’s Pembroke Pines location, where she provides comprehensive dermatologic care for individuals across a wide range of ages. Her services include general, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology, delivered with personalized attention and a strong focus on long-term skin health.
