Your Guide to Your Morning Skin Routine

Taking good care of your skin involves more than just washing your face when you wake up. Keep the following tips in mind to help your skin look and feel its best each day.

Wash Your Face

Although washing isn’t the only way to care for your skin, it should be part of your daily skin care routine. By washing your face in the morning, it helps get rid of any oil, sweat or other debris that might be in your pores. It removes the debris and clears out your pores before you put makeup or skin care products on, which reduces your risk of developing acne.

Apply Moisturizer

Moisturizer helps your skin stay hydrated throughout the day. When you don’t apply, your skin can become dry and irritated, especially during certain times of the year when humidity is lower. Putting moisturizer on in the morning helps prevent this from occurring. In order to benefit the most from moisturizing your skin, plan on doing so after you get out of the shower. Your skin is able to absorb moisturizer best at this time.

Use Eye Cream

The skin around your eyes is delicate and highly vulnerable to damage, especially from the sun. Put on an eye cream that keeps this skin hydrated and provides it with ingredients that stimulate the production of collagen, which helps lower the risk of developing fine lines and wrinkles. Ideally, look for eye creams that have vitamin C and retinol. If you plan on wearing eye makeup and foundation, apply your eye cream before.

Exfoliate Each Week

You don’t need to exfoliate your skin every morning, but you should plan on doing so once a week. Exfoliating clears away dead skin cells, leaving your skin refreshed and healthier. It also prevents it from developing a dull appearance. You shouldn’t use harsh products to exfoliate your skin, since these can end up causing irritation. Instead, use gentle exfoliating products to get rid of dead skin cells and make your skin look radiant.

Use Sunscreen

Apply sunscreen before leaving your home in the morning, especially when you’ll be spending time outside. Sun exposure can significantly increase your risk of developing early signs of aging, especially on your face. The sun’s UV rays raise your risk of skin cancer. Look for makeup that offers UV protection, such as foundation, lipstick and lip balm.
